Description
PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack bundles Dwarf Fortress with huge community upgrades - graphics, tools, bugfixes, and much more.

It's suitable for anyone - if you've never tried DF before, or played for years. For beginners, everything is bundled and set up for you; any setting can be safely ignored and the default will just work. For advanced players, everything is open: customise, add, remove, update, or replace anything you want to. The Starter Pack means you can spend hours setting up your fortress, instead of your DF install!

There's a thread on the Bay12 forums for feedback, questions, suggestions, or anything else about the pack. The second post has a complete table of contents, and recent changelogs.

Besides the official download page on DFFD (here!), /u/Hecknar maintains df.wicked-code.com, which mirrors every release since 0.40.01! The final 34.11 pack is here. The final 40.24 pack is here. The final 32-bit pack, 0.43.09-r09, is here. If you need an older pack or that site is down, let me know and we'll sort something out. OSX and Linux packs are available at http://dwarffortresswiki.org/Lazy_Newb_Pack

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download (above) and unzip the folder
It's a bundle of portable apps; there's no further installation procedure.
The pack must be able to read/write files though - so don't put it in a "Program Files" folder.
2. [Optional]: Use this tool and the checksum on DFFD to confirm you got an uncorrupted file.
3. [Optional]: Upgrade from an earlier release by copying your old 'Dwarf Fortress 0.xx.yy/data/save/' folder to the new pack.
DO NOT try to upgrade by extracting or copying over an earlier pack.
4. [Optional]: Visit the DF wiki or my tutorials for help learning to play.

Finally, an appeal: Dwarf Fortress is free, and redistributable, because Toady lives off donations. You can support Bay12 Games here. Or you can donate to cover my time and costs here. Even if you decide not to donate, Dwarf Fortress is still free - and so is this unofficial pack.

Hi, I discovered DF just a few days ago, but I can't get used to ASCII graphics so I'm trying to use Stonesense, but when I write "stonesense overlay" on the console, the window appears but it does not load anything, just the "welcome" screen. Can anyone help me please??

Thanks :-)

First a thousand apologies for my bad English, I'm using Google translator because I'm from Brazil.
Second, the game is crashing when we Strike the Earth!
Yes, after we prepare the dwarfs, the items and the animals and embark the game simply closes. How can i fix this!?

I get the exact same thing!
I've tried to create several worlds, it's all the same - crash on embark.

For those who face crash on embark, reduce the window size. Mine crashes when the window is maximized, but I make it smaller for embark and it loads fine, then I maximize it again.

Is it possible to install the latest dwarf fortress into the pack? Or will I have to wait for the pack itself to be updated?

The pack can't be updated until after DFHack, which usually takes a week or two to work at all and twice that to be stable. If you really want to try out the new version, you can always get vanilla!

Any news or progress towards a 0.47 release?
I recently decided to try my hands at managing dwarfs & the Newb Pack is really handy.

Tried to lazy newb pack it and lots of errors poped up.
I'm really anxious about understanding what's happening there :pint:

The outpost liaison from PeridexisErrant Mountainhomes has arrived.

With the outpost liaison comes an updated version of the Starter Pack.

Within the last week Urist McFortalyst was excited near a fine Starter Pack.

Seem to be having a problem with the screen going black. Going in and out of menus that use the whole screen can cause the playing area to become entirely black. Spamming "ESC" to bring up the save menu seems to fix it eventually. Makes the game pretty much unplayable, since going into the Military, Trading, Locations and Administrators, Nobles, Stocks, Units, Civilizations/WorldInfo, Announcements, Combat Reports, and Point menus all have a high chance of breaking the display.

Using settings Meph+Vordak(Lite)32x, Print Mode: TWBT, and TrueType Fonts: NO

Tried setting multilevel 0, or 1, and that didn't stop it from occuring.

I have this problem, too. It seems to be related to TWBT and the FPS caps. Go to Advanced, the top right is FPS Caps and set it to the same number, I have 33 and 33. It seems that if those two caps are different then the black screen appears more frequent. If nothing works then deactivate TWBT. Go to Graphics, at the bottom is Advanced and chose Print Mode: STANDARD. That's not the bug report page. Please post your problem on the forums http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=126076.0

Why does unpacking this contain a major Trojan horse?
