This is a utility which causes all creatures to appear in alphabetical order in the game. This should apply to anywhere that creatures or creature products are listed: pets, leather, meat at embark, stockpiles of animals, leather, or meat, etc.

This utility consists of a Python script and a replacement c_variation_default file. The replacement c_variation_default is required because the script has to apply the creature variations in order to properly alphabetize the creatures by name, and the original c_variation_default has some errors and omissions that needed to be corrected first. If you run this on the unmodified raws, you'll see a handful of errors come up in your errorlog file.

You will also see a lot of errors in your errorlog file due to missing tissues in the SPONGE_MAN creature. This is because of mistakes in the sponge man creature definition. I recommend deleting sponge men from your game completely.

To use:

Download and extract the files.

Make a complete backup of your DF install just in case.

Erase your existing c_variation_default file and replace it with the one from this utility.

Run the script. This will require you to have Python 2.x installed.

The script will prompt you to select a directory. Navigate to the raw->objects in your DF install.

The script will run. It will create a local directory 'saved_raws' in the same folder where your Python install is. In this it should create a single file, 'creature_sorted.txt'. This file now contains the raws of ALL your creatures, in alphabetical order.

Erase ALL creature raws from your DF install.

Copy the creature_sorted.txt into your raw->objects folder.

Create a new world. Play DF, enjoy how much easier it is to scroll through the list of creatures.
