This is a little perl script that I wrote to parse through the logs so I could see what civs owned what sites, what thier overall populations were, and what the overall population levels of cave critters were. The output file makes it pretty easy to see how the various races are doing.

You will see:
Each Civilization, with overall ruler. Each site in that civ, with the local ruler. A summary of every entity in that civ.
A summary of every civ, by race
A listing of every Ruin
A listing of the total populations of cave critters
A listing of the total populations of civilized creatures

For the entity lists, it now tries to handle merging the single creature listings in with the overall listing. So a single Human for a civ will get added to the Humans listing. It works ok for everything I've got, but modded in creatures may have issues.
Right now, follows a few basic rules.
Anything ending in -f becomes -ves (such as Dwarf to Dwarves)
Anything ending in -man becomes -men (except humans)
Anything ending in -i or -s is left alone (such as Dyansauri)
Anything else is pluralized to -s.

It's designed to be used with version Dwarf Fortress 0.28.181.39a and above. Currently tested with 39a and 39b. Should work with any 39 version. UPDATE: It also works ok with the new 31.x versions. It misses a little bit of information about human warlords, but other works ok.

You'll need perl to get this to work. You can get the ActiveState perl for Windows free. If you're running this on Linux/unix or a Mac, you may need to modify the script a bit to get it to work. On unix, that'll mean adding #/bin/perl or whatever to the top. No idea about macs. You should probably also rename it to ParseDFLogs.pl. I had to rename it to .txt to get it to upload.

From the command line (Start->Run on windows) the command is:
perl ParseDFLogs.pl --places=[FILE] --history=[FILE] (optional) --output=[FILE]

example: perl ParseDFLogs.pl --places=c:\DF\region1-world_sites_and_pops.txt --history=c:\DF\region1-world_history.txt --output=c:\DF\DFlogs.txt
