Description
Part of some of my experiments in making playable human civilizations, the purpose of this mod is to provide you with a wider range of building materials. It adds three potential building materials: thatch, clay, and ceramics.

One block of plant fiber thatch can be made at the Thatcher's Workshop from five units of plant fiber thread. It is intended to serve as a supplemental building material for those who do not want to use stone and have a limited supply of wood. The Thatcher's Workshop requires no particular enabled labors to build, but making thatch requires the Plant Processing labor.

Clay has been significantly modified from its vanilla incarnation. Clay is now a stone type that can be found as large pockets in any soil layer with "clay" in the name. Clay can be worked and built with just like any other stone.

In addition to the ordinary sun-dried clay described above, clay finished goods, furniture, and blocks can be fired at the kiln to make ceramics, which doubles their value.

The mod is compatible with DF version 0.31.04+, and should be compatible with any mod that does not modify the entities or soil types.

Installation
Download and extract the files into your Dwarf Fortress\raws directory.

 Building Materials Mini-Mod (v 1.0)  » posted by ChickenLips on Jul 15, 2010, 07:06:57 pm
Was checking this mod out, and noticed a couple of things that seemed like they possibly could be an oversight.:
  • In the custom reactions file, the FIRE_CLAY_CROWN and FIRE_CLAY_BRACELET reactions reference GOBLET in the REAGENT and PRODUCT lines, instead of BRACELET or CROWN.
  • The HATCHCOVER name appears to be wrong -- the game complains about it in the errorlog. Looking at the wiki's string dump, the correct name appears to be HATCH_COVER, but I'm not sure.

By the way, I much appreciate the excellent directions on integrating it with other modded material.
