Description
Ever wanted your songs, artifacts, or legendary historical figures to actually sound like they came from the racethat created them? Good, because DF CODEX (Dwarf Fortress CanOn Dictionary EXplorer) is a small dictionary-based translation tool that allows you to translate text between English and the languages of Dwarf Fortress, or even directly between the fantasy languages themselves! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
DF CODEX uses the original in-game dictionaries, preserving Dwarf Fortress' own limitations, style, and charm. This means that not every English word has a translation, punctuation is not supported, and missing words are highlighted and removed from the final output. Supported languages:
Words already found in Dwarf Fortress languages are kept untranslated when possible, as the tool assumes they may be names. Compound words used for surnames, site names, and other generated names are also correctly handled and translated into their respective languages. Do not be afraid to use English verb conjugations or plural forms; DF CODEX is able to recognize and translate them. It also supports synonyms and provides autocomplete shortcuts for special characters and uncommon words. Simply press the character you are interested in and then press Tab to see available words. DF CODEX includes the complete dictionary and two translation modes:
Kobold and Divine language generators:
Personally, I find its best use is for creating songs and poems. Translating something like: Quote:
"Champions are rewarded by Fortune!"
Quote:
"akur akir akam"
I also use it to quickly find translations for the names of sites and historical figures in their original race's language: Quote:
"Poisoncrazy" -> "Stozukagus" (Goblin)
Quote:
Zimesh Shadowfated the Tenebrous Crypts-Oblivion of Dusks -> Zimesh Osmanomep Geso Gogol Zitha Disem (Human)
I hope DF CODEX helps you during your deepest roleplay sessions, whether you are writing songs, naming artifacts, or creating stories worthy of legends. The application requires no complicated setup. It is a standalone executable with a simple interface. I constantly test it to find and squash DF CODEX works on Windows, Linux and iOS.
