Description
Saves of a specific world are not loading. Game hangs on "Loading Units...", then CTD.
Post crash, errorlog.txt displays: "Unit has misaligned body modifiers. Adjusting."

Consider this bug report closed -- according to KitFox, it is the result of junk data in the save that cannot be repaired or removed.

**Same issue as 16192 & 16195

Extra Info
################################################
################################################

Events in Chronological Order:

1. Game autosaves
2. A few minutes later, in-game crash happened
3. Restarted game
4. Attempted to load Autosave that happened a minute or so before crash, CTD.
5. Restarted game
6. Loaded earlier autosave, loaded correctly.
7. Played a long session with no crashes. Made sure to save manually periodically
8. End of session, saved to "Current Timeline".
9. Out of curiosity, attempted to load Active Save. CTD, specifically at "Loading Units..." No deviation.

################################################

Fix Attempts:

* Restarted Computer [x]
* Verified game files [x]
* Backed up saves, reinstalled game to different drive [x]
* Copied saves to different folder names [x]
* Set program to run as admin [x]
* Set program to run at High priority though launch options and Task Manager [x]
* Set program to windowed mode [x]
* Attempted to load other saves of the world [x]
* Deleting all unit-#.dat files in a backup save folder and loading [x]
* Re-naming that backup to "region1", attempting to load as the active save. [x]
* Deleting specifically unit-0.dat (Largest unit file) [x]
* Deleting all .dat files, loading save [x]
* Fresh install, placing ONLY region1 (Active) save in folder [x]
* Fresh install, placing ONLY region1 with deleted unit-#.dat files in folder [x]

################################################

Notes:

errorlog.txt displays x27 "Unit has misaligned body modifiers. Adjusting." -- This correlates with the "Loading Units..." Crash

No installed mods. Completely vanilla save.

This affects all saves that use the world.

This issue does not affect other created worlds.

stderr.txt has no relevant information.

All graphics drivers are up-to-date.

Game and Steam are up-to-date.

Deleting errorlog.txt and having it re-write produces only 2x "Unit has misaligned body modifiers. Adjusting."
(This is after using the Deleting unit-#.dat files attempt to fix.)

Broken Save [Steam Version] (v )  » posted by net on Dec 13, 2022, 07:01:14 pm
From the 50.03 patchnotes

if your save was previously corrupting and crashed, it probably cannot be revived, sorry. Many of these crashing errors caused garbage to be inserted into the save, which now is irreparable. If you can reload to an autosave, that's more likely to work. Otherwise, you'll have to start a new fort. Sorry!

major L boys, we'll get em next time
