I have 3 injured dwarves and numbers of diagnosticians as well as many medical dwarves of various skills.

The three injured dwarves are in my hospital and dwarves attend to their feeding and drinking. They do not, however, apply medical skills.

I have even gone so far as to restrict a number of these dwarves to a burrow the size of two rows of squares in the hospital and even when the medical dwarf is in the adjacent square, they never see to the injured dwarf.
