This is alternative music (a 17-minute quasi-jazz and texture suite) I composed to use in-game. I wanted to contribute to the community somehow, and music is my profession. I only wish I had the time to mix this really well and expand it. (I live in a rural area and take care of a wife and two children and make very little $$, so I have to put as high a price as I can on my time.)

'The Obsidian Mine' is a sample of what I imagine the crusty Lirukzus Quintet plays at about forty levels down at the Underground River Club on slow weekend nights when the goblins have gone home. Enjoy.

I really do like Tarn's guitar music, by the way, but after hours, I often want something different and I don't just want to pop in a CD. I think a game this deep really deserves an awesome and lengthy soundtrack of its own. This is my first stab at such a project. If I had the time (and funding?) I would like to put together hours of music for this game in a wide range of styles and textures.

To use it, simply back up and replace the file called 'song_game.ogg' in your DF directory (data/sound/song_game.ogg) with my file. Obviously, it's just an ogg file, so you can sample it beforehand in any decent media player.

The music (rights, etc.) belongs to me, so feel free to use it for the game, but don't sell it or anything silly like that. Feedback is encouraged.

[Edit: I just realized that if you are listening through inexpensive computer / laptop speakers (i.e., speakers with no low-end), you will miss a lot of what's going on in this. I recommend (if possible) good quality headphones or speakers with a powered sub.]
