Description
My lord I have much to tell you, I arrived into Findmine in the spring and and found out my predecessor has been terminated. He was forcefully conscripted and then died of "infection" soon after. I fear that other operatives have been sent here as well for similar goals as mine and I will have to tread much lighter in my movements. There is much to tell you and I have little time to do so. As you predicted the Baroness has grown soft and lazy now that she has some prestige and shifted work to a new mayor. I have gotten his ear while drinking and have helped to sort out some of the disorganization of the base. Rooms of stocks have been sorted and bins are now filled in proper fashion. Leaving rooms available for you when you decided to act. The military is truly a disorganized mess and almost three squads of militia were killed in a single siege. The pauper graves are growing here faster than plump helmets. There seems to be an over reliance on traps built by the engineers and I have yet to discover the head engineers true allegiance. I have allied myself with a growing power in the militia. A slow fellow who lost all of his front teeth after taking a few punches to the mouth when wrestling a minotaur. He also supported felling an Ettin shortly after. Given the strange event of the captain of the guard becoming an enemy of the fort and later being found of deyhdration I have been pushing support with the mayor for him to get some real rank for his service. It is only a matter of time before he is in a position to really help our cause. I have yet to discover why there was so many stockpiles of goblin armour being horded but I was able to convince the broker to trade off most of that junk for sound dwarf steel. A large prison is full of goblins and there ilk. I fear the gear might have been left to latter arm them in revolt so have been pushing for them to be used as "training" for the single squad of new recruits that the fort has dredged up. I am also worried about the sheer number of feral orphans that are running around. Over half the fort is children and more are being born every day! Due to the simple tasks of getting basic organization done and fending off the siege the grand water defense has yet to be finished - and in fact was set back when much of the machinery was destroyed before I got here in a previous siege. I fear that will not ever see completion but I will strive to make sure it will advance as far as possible in the coming months. I was able to advance the fording of the river for defense but there is much more that needs to be done before it can be finalized. There have been rumors from some of the miners that a giant beast is lurking in the sealed off caverns below and they currently refuse to collect the gems that they say are down there. Lastly I was able to arrange for the dozens of stacks of dead bodies and refuse to be moved from directly in front of the forts front gates as the sight of children rooting around in the mess has been disturbing to say the least. Lastly please do not believe any stories of legendary items... Truly these so called relics as the most sub par examples I have seen paraded around anywhere. In fact as I write this a child "prodigy" has taken over a crafts shop and is busy stealing supplies. I can only assume that it will be of the same quality as the rest. My activities have drawn a lot of interest so I will be going dark for a while. Your servant D |
