Description
Attention! This is not the famous visualizer! That's named Stonesense, one word.

Stone Sense is a utility for Dwarf Fortress that adds a sort of radar to miners, so that they can detect what is inside the rock near the location where they are digging.

The amount of rock detected depends on the skill of the miner, with Legendary miners detecting a radius of 8 tiles in each direction.

This version of Stone Sense works only with the 0.31.* releases. If you need a version for the old 3D DF, please contact me.

Known bugs: digging near raw funmetal will detect any empty tiles within the metal. When an empty tile is detected, the fun is unleashed, which then permanently slows down frame rates as it tries to hold a party for your dwarves. (A fix is planned, but will take some time.)

 Stone Sense (v 1.0)  » posted by beorn080 on Apr 21, 2010, 06:54:44 pm
There is a major "bug" with stone sense in DF2010. If you use it, when DF rechecks what you can see, it creates a lag spike. In addition and concurrent with that is that it fully reveals any underground area after a few rechecks, since DF feels that with the expanded area of vision, it should expose more. This has the interesting effect where if you have a magma pipe/underground pit/passage deeper, it can reveal every cavern and the magma sea. Once it hits the magma sea, it exposes the bottom layer of adamatine, opening up the clown car, but not completely.

This should be resolved in 1.2, with the exception of actually digging near adamantine.
