Description
After watching Lucio Fulci's excellent "Zombie", but being unable to graphically re-enact the zombie vs shark action in my fortress, I created this sprite sheet to fill in the gaps of my graphics set. All entries in "creature_large_ocean.txt" are represented. Some might need a bit of work (for instance, the closest I could come to a Coelecanth is a crude sketch of a sabretooth Koi, and skeletal Rays look curiously like Trilobytes ). Plenty of creative license was taken with anatomy and scale, but I think that's necessary in a 16x16 sprite. High visibility and a slightly cartoony look was a priority, but the palette may need to be corrected, as it's mainly limited to oranges and blues. I'm not an artist, but I think they look nice, and fit with the mayday/beefmo graphics set I use. Walrus and Whale sprites are reused from Mayday's DFG set, and plenty of others draw heavily on beefmo's Stonesense work or use mayday sprites as a base model. The community is welcome to any original work, so feel free to remix and change them to suit your needs. You don't need my permission. Hopefully, they're useable and not immediately obsolete when the new DF is released, but I can think of worse ways to spend an afternoon than drawing zombie sharks . UPDATE 2/8/2010- Added new whale sprites and entries from my upcoming Dig Deeper graphics pack, fixed an incorrect entry. Should still be backwards compatible with vanilla DF. |
