So, this save should demonstrate, with the proper action taken, how former merchant caravan members are flooded back onto the local map of a fortress when you retire it. This world was generated fresh for 42.03, with no mods running except Ironhand graphics and the "Adopts Owner" tag removed from cats.

Instructions for reproducing:

1) Load the attached save and retire the fortress (called "Stormcrown").
2) Create an adventurer who starts out in the Dwarven fortress "Stormcrown", part of "The Brave Mine" dwarven civilization.
3) You can retire that adventurer right away, or wander around the site, noting that it is filled with lots of merchants of different races.
4) Optional. If you retired the adventurer from step 3 above, you can reclaim the fortress and see all the left over merchants scattered around the map.

Note that often times the merchants are marked as friendlies along with others like site visitors. Soldier escorts for the caravans are often marked as hostiles though they don't usually attack your fortress dwarves at all.

I wonder if this accumulation in memory of past trade caravans somehow has an effect on your FPS. Perhaps a contributor to the FPS drop that seems to happen all the time now around 3-ish years into a fortress?
