huh, mustve missed that setting, as i did see the notice about the init and dinit settings and changed some stuff. Already got PE's pack and surprised that its just the windows LNP, since last time i got it was back when it was DF ver 44 something and was literally called the windows lazy newb pack. Thanks for the reply

PeridexisErrant had made the LNP for a while, but then changed the name in 2014 before the 0.40.01 release. I don't think any Pack has had the initials "LNP" since then. Unfortunately, the Launcher itself is branded "Lazy Newb Pack" across the top, and Pidgeot refuses to even address the possibility of changing it. It's too bad, because it's a huge mess for supporting the Packs, since "LNP" doesn't tell us anything at all about operating system, etc.

Hi, booting up DF with this pack and the sound that should be playing (at movie and menu) is not playing. Downloaded and tested with a normal DF download to see if it was DF bug or pack bug and normal DF played sound normally

Hey there!

I usually turn those off in the settings, but they're the first few in init.txt if you want to turn them back on for yourself!

You're much better off with a real Pack at this point anyway, I only do these early on in a release until the critical utilities and tools move out of alpha into release versions. I probably have out of date components.

You want this Pack: https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=7622

Hi, I downloaded, extracted latest starter pack associated with 47.05 to Documents folder on Window. When i click Dwarf Fortress app or use the launcher, DF starts up, but I don't get any option to "Continue Playing" so I can follow the tutorial. It's as if it's not seeing the saved game presumably saved for the tutorial. Tried various combinations in the launcher.

It DID work with the earlier 40.24 starter pack, but I understand that's an obsolete version? Or is the tutorial only set up to work with that version?

thanks! hb

Hello there!

"PeridexisErrant's Walkthrough" (http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11171) and "PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack (64bit)" (https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=7622) are indeed different projects by the same author. The tutorial only works with "PeridexisErrant's Walkthrough" which as you note is an earlier version, whereas "PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack (64bit)" is usually the most complete and up to date Pack.

When I was unzipping the file (it ends up being 559 MB, 567 MB on disk) I got a warning from McAffee saying a virus tried to "attack" me:

Anyone know what this JTI suspect stuff refers to? Won't let me copy the text so I took a screenshot.

Is the Dwarf-Mockup EXE file important for using this?

It's a false positive, it's come and gone from the virus checker lists for years, no one's ever had a problem with it.

If you're concerned about it, removing it is fine, it doesn't affect anything else or actually link to Dwarf Fortress in any way. It's a neat but unessential utility. It lets you lay out fortress areas in a graphics format and save them in the old quickfort format. There are other tools included in DFhack that can perform nearly the same function.

The author is actually back in the community, so maybe we can get a version that doesn't upset virus checkers, which don't agree on what's wrong with it, incidentally. Apparently it's a script and some graphics libraries wrapped up in an .exe shell.

The last three comments here above yours are all on this same topic, and multiple other times further up, incidentally.

Just passing this report on from reddit:

I'm trying to install Meph Tileset v5.5 form : "https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=15145" but when i extract the file in a new folder , malwarebytes detect a "Trojan.Swrort" and block it. Should I worry or is it just a false alarm? (also detected by Virustotal)

I am able to launch DF from Dwarf Fortress directory within. Just not the Start Pack launcher.
FYI I am the administrator on this machine.
I am also getting this error.
Windows 10 Pro
Tried in my documents and on desktop.
Dwarf Fortress Launches on its own, and the DFHack launches with it if launched via the LNP directory df launcher.

Hey folks,

I was able to replicate this error by trying to run Starter Pack Launcher (PyLNP).exe without first extracting it from its .zip folder. The Pack is intended to be uncompressed before running, and has always done very odd things when run while compressed. Try it out on the desktop first, there's no traditional installer, so it's best not to run it in system folders.

For context, I mod /r/dwarffortress, so I see a ton of questions, but I don't myself use the Packs, usually.

Did you update the Altar and Dice graphics?

We're getting a lot of crash reports on the subreddit for "Meph Tileset", but not necessarily your update Pack. Meph stuff is half the crash reports I'm getting, actually, to the point that's the first question I ask now. I wonder if it's something in DF Revised, which updated since Meph added it in to the Launcher.

That's unpossible!

Can someone help? I get these green bars every time I start the game. I don't know why.

It's your new-ish Intel video drivers. Most of the reports are INTEL UHD Graphics 630, and it affects some premium software, so it'll probably get fixed soon. In the meanwhile, you might be able to play if you set your print mode to 2d instead of twbt or whatever you have it on currently. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=126076.msg8156082#msg8156082

Oh, there's even a different pack from the LNP pack! Gosh dang how'm I supposed to keep track of all this lol. Thank you!

There hasn't been a Windows Pack called LNP since 2014, so it's easier than you think PeridexisErrant made that for years too.
Setari wrote:
Is there an "easy" way to change the tilesets back and forth? I want to change to ASCII from the default pack.

My advice is to switch to the more up to date PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack Preview which is set up to do those changes for you.

I generally leave some small tidbit here and there as a reminder it's nothing like a quality Pack!

Weirdly, the worldgen.txt I left in the last one has gotten a lot of comments! Apparently it makes excellent "fantasy novel map" maps, but I just made it to give more mountains and less useless ocean.

Are you still planning to update and expand this? The newer DFHack and TWBT would be particularly welcome, as there are crash fixes.
